The History of Tyseley
The name Tyseley comes from the word for a wooded clearing, suggesting that it was created from the forest that was prevalent in the area. It is first mentioned in 1327, though there is evidence that there was a Saxon settlement where modern day Tyseley sits.
Tyseley grew into a major industrial centre, employing thousands of workers, many of whom lived in the purpose-built Victorian houses that were built in the area to accommodate them. Today, the area is still largely industrial focused, and it also has a reputation for furniture retail, with more than a dozen large furniture outlets in the area.
